Funders spotlight - The Joicey Trust
The Joicey Trust makes grants to registered charities within its main beneficiary area of Northumberland and the old Metropolitan Borough of Tyne & Wear (i.e. all NE and SR postcodes and DH4/5). It also welcomes applications from the eastern Scottish Borders. Grants are made across a wide spectrum for either revenue (including 'core funding') or capital expenditure.
To note:
- The Trustees generally exclude applications from charities outside the beneficiary area whose gross income exceeds £1 million (there is no such income limit for organisations within the beneficiary area).
- Whilst the Trustees will always reserve their right of discretion as to the level of awards given, the maximum awarded is rarely more than 10% of the project costs claimed.
- Where a charitable organisation is not registered, applications will be considered provided the application is accompanied by a letter from a Local Infrastructure Organisation (LIO, CVA, CVS etc) confirming they will receive any award on behalf of the charitable organisation.
In 2017/2018, 134 grants totalling £275,550 were awarded; the majority were for under £5,000.
Deadlines: 31st May / 30th November each year.
